It is easy to determine if your locks are misaligned by testing the deadbolt. To test the latch, put red lipstick on the edge of the deadbolt. When you turn the key, the handle should be able to return to its upright position. If you want to, you can remove the strike plate and check whether the latch is aligned.

You can also check the gap between the door and the frame to see if it is misaligned. If the gap between the frame and the door is greater than half an inch, it's likely your lock is misaligned.

An Allen key can be used to adjust door frame fixings. Once the fixings are in place you can put them in place and tighten them. However, do not over-tighten the screws, otherwise the door will fall.

It is an excellent idea to apply lubricant to the lock, especially when you have a heavily covered door. This will reduce pressure on the locking mechanism and keep it from breaking.
